FOCOL was inaugurated by Prof. V. Vishwanadham in the presence of the then Collector and Dist. Magistrate Sri. L. V. Subrahmanyam. We are fortunate to have both of them today once again on the dais. We planned accordingly and requested them to honor our sentiments. On that day, a state level symposium “Restructuring the Indian Economy” was conducted, in which 14 professors from three universities participated.
“Research Resume on Mahabubnagar District” was conducted wherein 15 scholars who obtained Ph. D., degree on the basis of Mahabubnagar data have presented their research conclusions for which Sri. G. P. Reddiah, then Collector and Dist. Magistrate were the chief guest.
UGC Emiritus fellow Prof. J. Satyanarayana delivered a lecture on “Impact of New Industrial Policy”. The lecture was based on a UGC project work carried out by Prof. J. Satyanarayana for 2 years after retirement, from the Osmania University.
A state level students seminar was conducted in Collaboration with OU, P. G College Mahabubnagar “Economic Reforms and Human Face”. The students seminar was observed by 8 Professors from universities for which Mr. Raymond Peter, the then Collector and Dist. Magistrate was the chief guest. Prof. K Ramakrishna Sharma, who delivered key note address, published the article in the book released recently at Department of Commerce, O.U, Hyderabad
“ University – Industry Interaction” was conducted in collaboration with OU P. G College, Mahabubnagar on March 1st, in which prominent industries/ industrialists in Mahabubnagar like M/s. Suryalaxmi Cotton Mills Limited, Sri Sanjivarayudu garu, Sri P. Sambamurty, the then Andhra Bank Branch Manager have participated. The then Head Dept of Commerce, Prof D. Obul Reddy also participated. Sri. P. Krishnaiah, the then Collector and Dist. Magistrate, Mahabubnagar was the chief guest and Prof. V. Vishwanadham presided over the function.
A symposium on “Changing Consumer Behaviour in India” at OU P.G College by FOCOL Prof. Ananthan & Prof. Laxman from Mysore University participated.
FOCOL along with OU P.G College, Mahabubnagar and Govt of Andhra Pradesh, conducted a stat level seminar on “Responsive Administration”. This seminar was attended by prominent journalist like Pothuri Venkateshwarwa Rao, Human Rights activist Prof G. Haragopal, Loksatta Chairman Jaiprakash Narain, Political leader of Mahabubnagar R. Chandrasekhar Reddy, leading advocate A. Suryanarayana Murthy, Sup. Of Police N. Sambasiva Rao and then Collector Sri. P. Krishnaiah. The programme brought awareness about the Responsive administration in terms of pro-active and reactive policies of the Government.
The former Collector and Dist. Magistrate Sri. P Krishnaiah delegated evaluation of DRDA and CMEY programmes to FOCOL, during the year 1997-98. Even during 1991, when Sri. L. V Subramaniam was the Collector, an M Phil thesis Ms. Sunita Rani under the supervison of Dr. K V Achlapathi on “Performance of Groundnut Oil Industry in Mahabubnagar”(on Beechpally plant) was considered as basis for formulating policies on Oil seeds. FOCOL believes Academic and Administrative bodies must work together for better service to the people.
FOCOL has a rich tradition of inspiring and encouraging its members to undertake research work by honoring them in academic functions for their research achievements. Till now, Dr. K V Achalapathi, Dr. T. Nagender, Dr. L. Srinivasulu, Dr. M. M Taimuri Baig, Dr. Ramesh, Dr. G Narayana, Dr. D. Chennappa were honored for achieving M Phil degrees.
Prof. Vishwanadham, was honored by FOCOL members who retired from the services of OU. Prof. Vishwanadham, is the friend, Philosopher and guide to FOCOL ever since its inception. We call him as Guru pithamaha of Commerce teachers.
